On February 16, Yang Young Foundation and Sudang Foundation held the 2017 Scholarship Awards Ceremony in the auditorium of Samyang Group Headquarters Office. Yang Young Foundation and Sudang Foundation granted a total of 730 million won scholarships to 93 high school students and 89 college students. Scholarship winners were selected through recommendations and screenings via schools.
In addition, BeautifulStore donated 2,500 Q-One sugar products to go into the share packages. The Bundle Sharing event is an annual volunteer activity for sharing affection and donating daily necessities such as rice, soap, toothpaste and sugar to disadvantaged groups such as single-parent households, families with children raised by grandparents and elderly who live alone.
Scholarships were awarded to model students who attained high grades in school in spite of their difficult financial situations. Yang Young Foundation, which is Korea’s first private scholarship foundation, was established by the late Sudang Kim Yeon-su who was the founder and the first chairman of Samyang Group, and Sudang Foundation, was set up by Chairman Kim and his children.
Both foundations have been awarding scholarships to students to foster talent since their establishment. In addition, the foundations support research activities of various fields required for society and award prizes and total prize money of 300 million won to people with outstanding achievements in their own fields every year at the Sudang Prize Awards.
