On February 20, Yangyoung Foundation and Sudang Foundation (Chairman: Kim Sang-Ha) held the 2018 Scholarship Awards Ceremony in the auditorium of Samyang Group Headquarters Office.
Yang Yong Foundation granted a total of 931 million won scholarships to a total of 203 people- 91 high school students, 93 Yangyoung Foundation college and graduate students, and 19 Sudang Foundation college and graduate students. Scholarship winners were selected through recommendations from their schools and awarded to model students who attained high grades in school in spite of their difficult financial situations.
Yangyoung Foundation, which is Korea’s first private scholarship foundation, was established in 1939 by the late Sudang Kim Yeon-su who was the founder and the first chairman of Samyang Group. Later, Sudang Foundation was set up by Chairman Kim and his children in 1968 to expand the scholarship program. Up until now, these foundations have provided scholarships and research funds to more than 20,000 students and around 600 academics. Meanwhile, Sudang Foundation hosts the Sudang Award every May, granting a total of 300 million won prize money to an academic staff who has made outstanding contributions in the field of natural sciences, applied sciences, or humanities sciences.
